Thanks for Helping us Provide Medical Care and Food Aid in Ethiopia
Operation Ethiopia's mission is to provide quality Eyecare, including treatment for and prevention of blindness and eye disease to poor people in Ethiopia. Additionally, we facilitate both medical care and food aid to the Jews in Ethiopia, which was our founding cause.
Our work is focused in the village of Gondar, in both the Jewish Community and the surrounding (non-Jewish) villages. It all started with a family trip to Ethiopia in 2014, where we saw abject poverty first-hand, including malnourished children and lack of access to medical care, and decided to do something about it.
Dr. Morris Hartstein, MD, FACS. is the Founder and Director of Operation Ethiopia. He has taken over a dozen trips to Ethiopia to volunteer his time and skills to operate on patients and run mobile Eye Care clinics in the villages. He started a physician training program in Israel that brings Ethiopian Ophthalmologists for advanced training for two months rotations. Operation Ethiopia runs Cataract Campaigns in Ethiopia to literally restore eyesight damaged by dense, untreated cataracts. Together with SSEJ (Struggle to Save Ethiopian Jewry, Inc.) we run a feeding program for malnourished children and nursing mothers in the Gondar Jewish Community.
